A New Trailer for Gotham City Impostors

Players are given tons of customization options for their character. Why play as The Dark Knight or the Clown Prince of Crime when you can create your own! Can We Give Christopher Nolan a Break?

If any director should get the benefit of the doubt it should be Christopher Nolan. It seems like every single piece of information or imagery from the upcoming Batman film is being scrutinized to the umpteenth degree. Bane's voice sounds weird, Catwoman's suit is different, Bane's mask is not what i thought it should be. Can we all just take a breather? Take a moment to remember that this guy has a pretty good track record. Memento, The Prestige, Inception, Batman Begins and the Dark Knight. The Dark Knight has turned out to be arguably the best comicbook movie of all time. Seriously. He made a movie about magicians! And it wasn't lame!

Plus you have to remember that all these pics that have leaked out are being taken out of context. Who really knows if Catwoman's suit will stay that way or if Bane's voice will be dubbed over later. All this stuff could only be 5 minutes of the actual film or even be left on the cutting room floor.

Personally, I could see a trailer with Christian Bale doing the Batusi, and I still wouldn't flinch. The man has my complete support and he should have it from all Batman fans.

Sin City 2 Update

wegotthiscovered recently spoke to director Robert Rodriguez about his upcoming Spy Kids movie and asked him how Sin City 2 was coming along. Rodriguez had this to say:

Sin City 2 is going good, we’re just finishing the script for that, we already got the money. We have everything we need so we can just start shooting as soon as we get the pages. And it’s the same thing for Machete 2. We’ve already got the budget, just waiting for the script. As soon as we’re finished writing we get to start the shoot.

During Comic Con 2011, Rodriguez had said that Frank Miller has written the script for Sin City 2 and that "it could shoot as early as later this year."

Sin City 2 will include Miller's A Dame to Kill for and an all new story titled The Long Bad Night.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Preview

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is an updated version of Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds which was released earlier this year. This will not be a downloadable update but instead it will be released as a brand new game at a budget price of $39.99. This new version will not only rebalance the returning character roster (except for the two DLC characters that was in the original game, you still have to buy them if you haven't already) but will also introduce 12 new characters, 8 new stages, an improved netcode for better online play, a spectator mode for the online mode, and a new HUD (heads up display.)

First off: the new characters

After seeing Ghost Rider in action, he reminded me of how Omega Red used to play like in the past VS games where he can pull an enemy in with his whip as well as how Dahlsim plays like in the Street Fighter games where he can attack from a distance. It looks like he also has unblockable grabs similar to Super Skrull's Elastic Slam. So far he looks like a blast to play and he has one of the sickest Level 3 Hypers in the game.

Firebrand is my favorite new character right now. Looking at the way he plays, he reminds me a lot of Wolverine, but with wings and projectiles. He has a command grab that you can combo into and drag the enemy completely across the screen and then continue the combo after the grab. The best part about that move is that it can OTG (off the ground, able to attack an enemy while he/she is knocked down to the ground) and it can be done after an air combo. His Level 3 Hyper summons a computer controlled Firebrand on the screen and will fly around and attack the enemy.

Hawkeye may have a simple move set but what makes him so unique from all the other characters is that he can shoot a huge variety of status changing arrows. So far they have shown Poison Arrow (it slowly depletes an enemy's health until Hawkeye is hit,) Freeze Shot (freezes an enemy in place,) Piercing Shot (shoots through multiple enemies,) Net Arrow (stops an enemy or knocks an enemy down if he/she is in the air) and many more. He has more than 20 status changing arrows in the game. There are other characters that have status changing attacks like MODOK who can reverse the player's control and Viewtiful Joe who can slow down an enemy. But Hawkeye has by far the most status changing attacks in the game. Hawkeye's Level 3 Hyper OTG is cool. He fires off Ant Man, who hits the opponent, then grows in size and gives the opponent the biggest boot known to man.

Strider Hiryu is a returning character in the versus series. He has very low health and deals very little damage but he is also incredibly fast and very dangerous. Strider is the first character to have 2 Level 3 Hypers in the game. The first is your usual flashy Hyper that deals massive damage and the other Hyper summons two little robots circling around Strider shooting projectiles chipping away at an enemies health.

Thanks to some fool at Capcom, he accidentally leaked the other new 8 characters in the game. These new characters are: Dr. Strange, Iron Fist, Nova, Rocket Raccoon, Frank West, Nemesis, Phoenix Wright, and Vergil.

The X-Factor (which boosts a character's speed or increases the damage dealt to their opponent) will be toned down since so many people-- myself included-- complained about it being way too overpowering. Everyone will have an equal boost in both speed and damage. They decreased the amount of time the X-Factor lasts as well. But now the player can activate X-Factor while in the air.

Based on the demo Capcom presented at the 2011 Comic Con International, the returning characters received some nerfs (toned down or removed something) and/or buffs (made them better). For example, Ryu can now charge his Hadokens and Shoryukens for bigger damage. He can also also go into this "super mode" which enhances all of his attacks. Moreover, Wolverine is now an overall slower character and has less health. These nerfs and buffs may change by the time the game is released.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 will be released on November 2011 and will be available on the Playstation 3 and X-Box 360 in North America and Japan.

A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas Trailer

Well, this one caught me by surprise. I thought that Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay would be the last of the series. But it seems that this holiday season, our two resident potheads that manage to get into every type of shenanigans as possible, get into more trouble-- and in 3D no less. The trailer shows the return of NPH (Neil Patrick Harris), Santa being shot, and the movie making fun of itself because it's in 3D. Watch the trailer below.

A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas comes to theaters November 4, 2011.

Freddy Kreuger Cuts His Way into Mortal Kombat

Freddy Kreuger is now a playable character for download on the latest Mortal Kombat intellectual property. It was announced a couple of weeks ago at the San Diego Comic Con.

It will cost ya $4.99 US credits for the PSN, and "X" amount of Microsoft Points. I won't even perform the simple google search to find out how many points is $4.99. It just irks me that Wack-Box has this lame Point system. Why does Microsoft have Points anyway? That question is for another blog post.

If you like to see entrails then don't wait and pick up Mortal Kombat. I have to say that the story mode in this game is just fantastic. It takes you back in history and explains MK, MK 2, and MK 3.

Sequel Ideas for Rise of Planet of the Apes!

I came across this little bit of information and since we have just put up 8Bit Spit's thoughts of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, I thought this was interesting. Director of Rise Rupert Wyatt told bleedingcool that he has thought of some potential sequel ideas. The following is what he said:

There’s so much we could do… The ideas I’ve had are all sorts of things, ranging from Full Metal Jacket with apes… you could start this story again eight years from where we left off, the next generation of apes, those that have come from our protagonists, perhaps going in to a conflict with humans and showing real fear, in the same way as going into war for young soldiers in this day and age, telling their story. Or how apes are taking over cities, and being moved into human environments and having to interact with them and deal with things that are part of our culture and understand and evolve through them. Spies that are in the employ of the apes, working against humans and humans maybe existing underground, because that’s a way they can avoid the virus, coming up above ground wearing gas masks, and maybe that’s what dehumanises (sic) them.

Sounds pretty interesting. Could it work? Possibly. I'm interested in seeing where Wyatt takes this franchise.

Smells Like Teen 8bits

Once again I have found a great song done in chip tune fashion.  This is Smells Like Teen Spirit from Nirvana's second album, Nevermind.  Nirvana sky rocketed up the charts with this great hit in the early nineties.

You can find this tune and many others in themusic8bit youtube channel.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes- Quadruple Review!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Directed by: Rupert Wyatt
Release date: August 5, 2011
Starring: James Franco, Andy Serkis, Freida Pinto, David Oyelowo, Brian Cox, and John Lithgow
Studio: 20th Century Fox

All Hail Caesar!

This movie snuck up on me.  I saw the first few trailers and at the time I thought it looked really interesting.  But besides that, I didn't think much of it.  I had seen enough of the "Apes" movies to not be genuinely excited.  The original Planet of The Apes (1968) was a sci-fi classic, but the following movies in my mind were nothing special.  They actually bored me. I won't say much about Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes (2001), except that it didn't elicit much emotion in me one way or the other.  I considered it a dead franchise.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a fantastic movie.  I left the movie theater feeling excited about where the 43 year old franchise can go next.  I won't get too spoiler-ish, but I will say that Caesars' rise as the chimpanzee leader of the apes is one of the most fun moments of any summer movie this year.  Those scenes alone are worth the price of admission.  The human cast as a whole did a solid job, but the stars of this flick are Caesar and the WETA special effects crew.  Well thought out story, good acting and great visuals.

As far as movies go, Rise of the Planet of the Apes wasn't at the top of my must see movies of the year. I would've been just as content waiting for this movie to come out on blu-ray/dvd and renting it 3-4 weeks later.  I am so glad I didn't wait and went out to watch Rise at the theaters!

Andy Serkis' performance as Caesar was nothing short of spectacular.  Serkis' ability to bring such humanity and presence to Caesar is clearly visible to the audience. As great and awesome as the action scenes were, it was the quiet moments with Caesar, Will (Franco), and his father Charles (Lithgow) that were inspiring to watch. It makes you forget that you are watching a CGI'd chimp (kudos to WETA!) and you meld right into the movie.

With Rise, I can only hope that the PoA franchise can continue in the same style and direction that director Rupert Wyatt has set forth. Maybe it's time for remakes of PoA to RISE once more.  Here's hoping 20th Century Fox doesn't drop the ball here.

Rise Review!

The first time I saw the preview for this motion picture at the theater, I can honestly express that I didn’t think much of it. Nothing made me say “I got to see this movie when it comes out.” I guess because the 2001 version with Mark Wahlberg left a bad taste in my mouth. Ok, ok I’m being a bit harsh.  I’ll fess up;  I enjoyed the 2001 adaptation, but it did not blow my mind.  Also, I broke my number one cyber rule and that is to never jump into an inter-webs hype-wagon.  The internet as you may know is a very tough, tough place and the most simplest of things can be over exaggerated.  I watched numerous sneak peeks, trailers, and read a couple of blog post stating that the trailers were spoil machines and gave out too much information.  Blah blah blah, and you know what?  I fell for it and I ate every slimy word.

Sometimes it's good not to listen to what people have to say, especially on the internet.  The plot was compelling, and the CGI was great;  the subtle facial expressions that the apes gave were just oozing with emotions.  This is definitely the surprise hit of the summer, so let’s crank the hype machine to full blast.  Go out and see this picture and of course you should never believe the hype.

Chimp Conquest

I honestly wasn't as impressed with Rise of the Planet of the Apes as I thought I would be.  I think I went in with very high expectations because of all of the great reviews it had garnered from all of the critics. Although it wasn't what I was expecting, it was definitely a very entertaining film.

The premise of the film was very creative and maybe even plausible in real life.  In fact, 96% of our DNA is shared by our fellow homo sapiens so the thought of genetically enhancing them was interesting.  A little food for thought for you readers out there.

In the end, I wasn't fully pleased but I wasn't disappointed with this film either.

Dark Souls Preview

Today we are treated to a preview of From Software's Dark Souls from guest contributor Paranoid Droid. Enjoy!

Dark Souls is an action RPG (role playing game) developed by From Software and is considered a spiritual successor to the hit PS3 game Demon’s Souls. From Software promises that Dark Souls will be a much more difficult experience by adding new challenges, more traps, tougher enemies, and bigger bosses, but it will also be just as rewarding when you succeed. The gameplay will be similar to Demon's Souls; where it's about trial and error and learning from your mistakes to play better.

Dark Souls will have an open world environment, giving players the chance to go to different locations and dungeons, allowing them to explore at their own leisure. There will be more complex level designs in the game, with more vertical designs used throughout. The world setting is based on medieval dark fantasy and will contain themes like "high fantasy of kings and knights, death and the depths of the earth, and the flames of chaos." The hub world that was in Demon's Souls is gone; instead it has been replaced by checkpoints, or as it'll be called in the game bonfires. Bonfires are located throughout the game world. Once activated, your character will be completely healed and your health items will be restocked as well. Not only that, the enemies that you've slain along the way will respawn and will be tougher and angrier than before.

Like Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls will allow you to create your own character and pick a variety of classes such as Soldier, Knight, Magician, or Priest. Two of the new classes that are introduced are the Black Knight class and the Pyromancer class. The Black Knight class has the ability to invade another player’s game while she/he is online and attempt to assassinate them at free will. The Pyromancer has the ability to summon the Gravelord, a powerful demon, and setting it free upon another player's world to attack and harass that player until she/he either kills the Gravelord or is killed by the Gravelord. The Pyromancer can't decide who they attack.

From Software has also announced a special edition that includes a game guide, art book, a behind the scenes video, and the official soundtrack. Both the game and special edition version cost $59.99 and is available for pre-order now.

Dark Souls is set to be release on the Playstation 3 & Xbox 360 on October 4, 2011, in North America, and on October 7, 2011, in the UK. Japan's release date is on September 15, 2011, but will only be available for the Playstation 3.

Look for my review of Dark Souls when the game comes out.

PS Vita Delayed til 2012

Guess Santa won't be delivering those new PS Vita to United States and European homes this Christmas. According to videogamebloggers, Sony has decided to delay the PS Vita's release until 2012. However, Japan's release date remains unchanged and will be released at the end of this year. No reason has been given for the delay.

The PS Vita will have a starting price of $249.
