Immigrant Song

Here is your weekly dose of chip tune music. This little diddy is from Led Zeppelin's third album respectively titled: Led Zeppelin III.

Immigrant Song is also been currently remade by the stylings of Trent Reznor and the vocals of Karen O. You can get a taste of it on the upcoming release The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movie trailer. I don't know about you boys and girls but when I hear certain great songs like this one, they put me in a state of emotions which are unexplainable. Tell me you don't get a case of goose bumps by the end of this clip?

I don't know much about this movie and honestly I don't care. What I do know is that I'm going to get the soundtrack to it.

So please pour yourself a hot cup of coffee and sit back on your favorite easy chair and let your ears make sweet love to this music.

Dark Souls Will Not Be Getting DLC

Namco Bandai has announced that Dark Souls will not be getting any DLC in the future.

Looking at the fact that Demon's Souls had a great amount of content, I can only see this as a good thing because after putting dozens of hours in Demon's Souls, I'm pretty sure that Dark Souls won't need DLCs to make it more interesting. If the game has a lot of content to begin with, then I feel happy that the developer is putting great effort into their games.

Handsome Men's Club

I know this video is about a year old but I think it's one of the funniest bits Jimmy Kimmel has ever done on his show Jimmy Kimmel Live. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did and still do!

I am still waiting for my invitation...

Man of Steel Official Plot Synopsis

ComicBookMovie has obtained an official open casting call notice looking for extras in the Vancouver area for the filming of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. The casting call notice also includes the official notice for MoS which reads:

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone's imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question - Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as "Superman," not only to shine as the world's last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

Henry Cavill stars as Superman/Clark Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan "Pa" Kent, Diane Lane as Martha "Ma" Kent, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White. Man of Steel is scheduled to be released June 14, 2013.

52 Pick Up: DC's New Commercial

In a little less than 2 weeks time, DC will be soft rebooting their universe giving the DC Universe a whole new feel and look. Many long time running comics such as Batman, Detective Comics, and Action Comics (the former being in the #700s & the latter two in the #800s in issues released) are going to relaunched at the end of the month with a #1. This is a big deal and big step DC is taking and they have even produced a commercial to play at theaters and on TV to promote their new status quo. DC's goal is to try to bring new readers to their stable of characters without having the characters being bogged down with so much history making them more accessible to everyone. DC begins this soft reboot with the release of 52 new #1 issues of many of their characters. Here is the :30 commercial.

Newsarama has a video showcasing an extended version of The New 52 Commercial. Did you guys notice that the Wildstorm characters are now part of the DCnU? Hmm... Not sure how I feel about DC's new daring direction but it should be interesting seeing characters like Stormwatch and Grifter interacting with DC characters such as Superman, Batman, Nightwing, or Green Lantern.

Apps of the Week

Hey fellow 8 bit spitters! Dannymumic and I thought that we would take the time to share some of our favorite apps that can be found and used for our smartphones. I'll do my best to bring into light what apps I find fun and/or useful for Androids and Dannymumic will talk about the best apps Apple has to offer.

Android: One of the apps that I enjoy using is the ringdroid. Ringdroid allows the user to cut your favorite song at any particular spot and then create your own ringtone or notification tone to use any way you want. For example, if you have Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven and always thought that the guitar solo at the end would be a great ringtone, you can use ringdroid and edit the song to just that part.

Ringdroid can be found in the Android Market and it is a free app.

Apple: For all you photography junkies out there, run and grab the 360 Panorama App which is now free for a limited time. This app lets you take a 360 degree view photo using your iPhone 4 camera which is great. What makes it even better is when you share this with a fellow iPhone user, it takes advantage of the iPhone's built in gyroscope so that when you open the photo and turn with your phone, you get an augmented reality experience. Since I did such a terrible job of explaining that, go ahead and check out the video below:

You can get the 360 Panorama App here

Paranoid Rant: Ninja Theory's Devil May Cry Part 2

Ninja Theory wants to take Devil May Cry into a more serious approach in both look and story. Capcom tried this approach when they made DMC2. This game wasn't even made by the same Capcom team that worked on the first game. Let's just say that DMC2 didn't live up to the awesomeness that was found in DMC1. Let's take a look at what made DMC1 and DMC3 great games and hopefully these elements will be found in Ninja Theory's latest take on this series.

The Devil May Cry series wasn't made to be story driven. In fact, the story was made to be stupid yet fun to watch. DMC1 and 3 had hammy acting, over-the-top cut scenes, and dumb jokes being thrown everywhere regardless of the situation. The whole thing was just funny.

When you see an intro like that you know you're not suppose to take the game's story too seriously.

The same exact thing happened in the intro to Devil May Cry 3. It just looked a lot more awesome (although I never did like the way the artist designed Dante in this one).

Ninja Theory might be able to tell a good story. After all, they've done so in the past with Heavenly Sword and Enslaved. They've been praised for telling a good story, but that's not the reason why people play Devil May Cry.

DMC 1 is a very brutal game from start to finish. Even if you were to put the game on the easiest difficulty, it is still hard. While the combat system wasn't as complex as the third or fourth games, it still required you to have some skill in order to beat it. In the beginning you fought against slow moving enemies which were pretty easy to kill. But the difficulty greatly increases as soon as you meet the first boss in the game. The first boss you face was a giant lava spider that jumps all over the place and shoots large, fast moving projectiles that takes up 1/3 of the screen. These bosses will appear again several times throughout the game and they get even harder as you progress. The enemies you fought earlier also get harder, they start to gang up on you and attack at the same time. This is what I loved about the series. It was challenging.

If there's one thing that DMC1 does better than the other games in the series, it's the atmosphere. For the majority of the game, I felt as if I was playing a horror game instead of an action game. It was dark and creepy, the monsters looked nightmarish, and even the music used in the background was creepy. I really liked the large medieval castle setting that DMC1 took place in. Surprisingly, this was originally going to be a new Resident Evil game for the PS2 at the time which explains why this game felt like a horror game. The idea was to make it into supernatural RE game but then it got scrapped. The idea was still there, they just completely changed it from a survival horror game to an action game.

It sucks that the atmosphere completely disappeared from the series after DMC1. I highly doubt Ninja Theory will try to recreated that feeling again in their game, seeing as its all bright and colorful-- not that it's a bad thing. That was the best part of DMC1.

Devil May Cry 3 was a huge step forward for the series. It added an insanely deep combat system as well as making the game even harder than the rest of the series. The combat was much more varied than the simple "hit one button to attack" mode. There was much more freedom while attacking. There was also more weapons variety this time around. Aside from you primary sword weapon, there was a three headed nunchaku that generates ice; twin swords with the power of fire and wind; a guitar that generates electricity and summons blood sucking bats; and powerful gauntlets and grieves that allows you to perform powerful punches and kicks. You can mix and match two different weapons and pull off so many different combos with them.

They also added new Style abilities that is mapped to one button: Trickster for dodging and better agility; Swordmaster for pulling off more advanced attacks; Gunslinger for more advanced attacks for your firearms; Royal Guard for blocking and countering; Quicksilver for slowing down time; and Doppelganger to create a clone of yourself and control both you and the clone at the same time. All of these styles (except for the last two) are available from the start of the game. You can only pick one style before each mission or at checkpoints located throughout the game. These Styles can be combined with your weapons to create even more powerful combos.

After seeing the complex combat system in DMC3, including it is something that is definitely needed in all future DMC titles.

In my next post, I'll talk about the engine and the gameplay that Ninja Theory is using for their version of DmC. This is the part that concerns me the most.

What Have We Done?!

We think of them as characters in games, stomping, shooting, stabbing, and eating enemies that are trying to kill them. That kind of stuff sticks with you, even when you kill out of survival. Mike Mitchell has managed to capture the tragic aftermath.

Dr. Strange
and Nemesis T-Type have been officially revealed for Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

Nemesis T-Type Trailer

When I saw Dr. Strange's play style, the first thing that came to mind was that he plays almost like Mu-12 from BlazBlue: Continuum Shift mixed with Magneto and Dormammu. This dude is looking like a very solid addition to the roster!

Nemesis just looks like the Hulk with better range. He deals a lot of damage but I'm not sure yet whether or not he'll be any good. I got to try him out.

The ESRB reveals new information on Dark Souls

The ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) has given Dark Souls an M Rating for Blood and Gore, Partial Nudity, and Violence. They even revealed a bit of new information of the kind of enemies we'll be facing in their game description:

This is an adventure role-playing game in which players must battle monsters and collect souls to lift an undead curse across the land. Players use swords, axes, and magic arrows to kill zombies, demons, giant spiders, and other fantasy creatures in both ranged attacks and melee-style combat. Players can also use stealth attacks (e.g., stabbing) to dispatch enemies at close range. Battles are accompanied by slashing sounds, cries of pain, and large splashes of blood. Blood pools may also appear on the ground, and some environments depict flaming bodies impaled on spikes. Boss battles include instances of dismemberment and decapitation (e.g., cutting off a gargoyle's tail, slicing multiple heads off a dragon). During the course of the game, one female enemy's breasts are barely obscured by strands of hair; some bird-like humanoids are also depicted with exposed buttocks.
I can't wait to fight that multi-headed dragon that was mentioned. Also that thing about bird people with exposed butts sounds hilarious.

Soul Calibur V Gamescom 2011 Trailer

Looks like Gamescom started a lot earlier than expected.

Soul Calibur V will feature some of the returning characters of the previous games as well as a handful of new ones. They even added a new special move system which to me looks similar to that of Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom. It looks like a pretty cool addition if you ask me.

UFC Undisputed 3 Trailer

I am a huge MMA fan. I love watching these incredible athletes fight. MMA, in my opinion, has surpassed boxing. Regardless, I like this new trailer for THQ's UFC Undisputed 3. It includes the fighters from the recently absorbed WEC promotion. It's pretty cool knowing that there will be more weight classes and be able to control MMA fighters like Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz. Plus, it looks like you'll be able to fight in the old PRIDE ring which would come with all the PRIDE rules (head stomps, soccer kicks, etc...)! This game is sure to improve on UFC Undisputed 2. I for one, cannot wait for the release of this game!
