Cliff Robertson Passes Away

Cliff Robertson, who won an Oscar in 1968 for the movie Charly, passed away earlier today at the age of 88.  Robertson is perhaps best known to us geeks as Uncle Ben in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies.  His daughter Stephanie Saunders had this to say:

My father was a loving father, devoted friend, dedicated professional and honorable man.  He stood by his family, friends, and colleagues through good times and bad. He made a difference in all our lives and made our world a better place. We will all miss him terribly.

Evelyn Christel, Robertson's longtime secretary, says that he died of natural causes a day after his 88th birthday at Stony Brook University Medical Center on Long Island.

We here at 8bitSpit send out our condolences to his family.

The Big "N" - Part 1: Nintendo...I Heart You!

This is a 3 part series in which 8BitSpit will touch on why we love and/or hate Nintendo and what we hope the future holds for it.

In my youth there were 3 game companies that had the biggest impact on my gaming life: Sega, Capcom and Nintendo.  I will touch on the other 2 companies on a later date because today is Nintendo's day.  Growing up my cousin, sister and I had an Atari 2600, and while we had an endless amount of fun playing with that system, I can't say that it made a huge impression on me.  The graphics were pretty bland, and the sound was "meh."  At the time it was really cool, but you could also go to the arcade and find more advanced games available like Centipede, Donkey Kong and Mario Bros. For whatever reason, sometimes the cartridges wouldn't work that well. The power and TV connections were prone to breaking down fairly quickly.  Plain and simple, it had its issues.

Nike Mags! You Can Have One Too! For A Small (not) Price!

The Nike Mags, the shoes Marty McFly wore in Back to the Future 2, will be made available on Ebay for purchase.  They will cost you a pretty penny though, as there were only 1500 made. But you can feel good knowing that proceeds of the shoes sold will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parksinson’s Disease research. So if you are a sneakerhead and got some extra cash lying around go get you one and do it for a good cause.

Now if they can only get started on making Biff's Growling Hoverboard!

Apps of the Week

It's that time again! So let's get started on this week's apps suggestions for both iPhones and Androids.

Behind The Scenes Look on Developer From Software

Video courtesy of Namco Bandai Games

I love developers like From Software simply because they aren't afraid to do whatever game they want to make. A lot of game developers (specifically the ones who makes the same old realistic military/sci-fi shooters all the damn time) out there should learn a thing or two from these guys.

The Rocketeer is Coming to Blu-Ray!!!

It's been a long time coming and I am glad to see that it has finally come.  Perhaps because of the success of the Joe Johnston directed, WWII era Captain America: The First Avenger, but Disney has decided to release 1991's The Rocketeer on blu-ray on December 13, 2011.  I can't wait to see this movie again in all it's glory in Blu-Ray!

Pac-Man in Real Life

Remi Gillard has been making some fun and interesting videos for a while now. One of the first ones I remember seeing was the one I have embedded below. It's fun seeing a real life Pac-Man get chased by the ghosts and the unsuspecting witnesses' reactions.
