Cliff Robertson, who won an Oscar in 1968 for the movie Charly, passed away earlier today at the age of 88. Robertson is perhaps best known to us geeks as Uncle Ben in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies. His daughter Stephanie Saunders had this to say:My father was a loving father, devoted friend, dedicated professional and honorable man. He stood by his family, friends, and colleagues through good times and bad. He made a difference in all our lives and made our world a better place. We will all miss him terribly.
Evelyn Christel, Robertson's longtime secretary, says that he died of natural causes a day after his 88th birthday at Stony Brook University Medical Center on Long Island.
We here at 8bitSpit send out our condolences to his family.
