The Simpson Renewed for 2 More Seasons

As reported earlier this week here on 8bit Spit, The Simpsons seemed to be on its final legs with both 20th Century FOX and the voice actors at a stalemate on contract negotiations.  Well, both sides have reached an agreement and are set to work together for 2 more seasons.  You can read the official release announcement Fox made on The Simpsons:

One of the new items that's going to be in Mario Kart 7 is the Tanooki Tail from Super Mario Bros. 3. In that game, the Tanooki Tail allowed you to fly for a short period of time. ThunderCats- Season 1 In Review *Spoiler-Free*

What a way to finish a off a season!  Cartoon Network's ThunderCats reboot has been one of the best reboots I can remember.  I would have loved to have sat in on the pre-production meetings for this show.  They must have had huge brainstorming sessions where the head dude-in-charge gave all his assistants weekend homework: "What do geeks love and how much of those geek-loves can we cram into this show?"

Anime? Check!
Fantasy and Swordfighting? Check!
Mechs? Check!
Hot Anime Chicks? Check!
Spaceships? Check!
Well written episodes? Check!
Half-Animal, Half-Human Characters? Check!

Yes, you read correctly.  ThunderCats had  all these things and more in its first season and it wasn't a jumbled mess of a show.  It was a fantastic ending to a great season and perfect way to lead up for the second season.  Look I loved the original, it was great and one of my favorites of my youth.  But lets be fair here, this new cartoon surpassed it in quality of art and quality of story!

I hope all you nerds out there are savoring every minute of this show because we are living in the golden age of geekery!  Videogames are mainstream! Shows like Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead are huge hits.  And Comicbook movies ruled the the summer.

Great Underrated Games of All Time- Ice Hockey!

Released in 1988, Ice Hockey is one the best games ever!  No really-- EVER! Ok maybe not really, but it is definitely one of the most underrated games of all time. Made for the original NES, Ice Hockey was of course based on hockey.  But it was a fairly dumb-downed version of hockey.  Besides icing, not many of professional hockey's rules were a part of the game.

Each team had one goalie and 4 players.  You can choose from 6 national teams, but to be honest, the change of national teams only adjust the colors of your uniforms.  You can also adjust the speed of the game from 1-5, with 5 being the fastest.   You can also adjust the time of each period from 7 minutes to 10 or 15 minutes per period.

The only other adjustment you can make to differentiate you from your opponent is probably the most fun adjustment.  You can choose the size and therefore the strength and speed of your players. Picking the lanky, skinny character gives you great skating speed but less control of the speed and slapping power of the puck.  Picking the regular character gives you average speed, average control and average power.  Finally, picking the hefty hockey player will give you slow speed, heavy controls but a killer slap shot.  Oh, and the heavy character also can fight his pants off and can have the other players bounce of his body! He is in a sense your team's enforcer.

I know it seems pretty simplistic, but just this form of picking your teams makes the game wildly fun.  You can have 2 skinny guys and 2 chubsters, or 3 average dudes and 1 skinny guy, or even have all 4 on your team be chubbies.  It just depends on what you want. You can be a slow defensive team, with all three chubbies.  Or be a quick shooting team with all skinny dudes.  You can't choose your goalie though.  Somehow you make it work. from there, the game of Ice Hockey is just a blast. Scores of 8-10 are a common occurrence and losing a player to penalties happens a lot because you are always looking for a fight. The game is just fun! Absolute fun!

Countless of hours were spent playing this game in my house when I was younger.   I would beat my cousin and he would beat me.  We would ask for rematches upon rematches, upon rematches.  To this day, I can pick this game up and still enjoy it in the same way.  One of the all time greats, and if you haven't tried it yet do yourself a favor and download on the Wii Virtual Console.

Dark Souls C.E. (Yes Again) Having Supply Problems

I mentioned before that Best Buy hadn't received their copies of the Dark Souls C.E. and there's a reason why they didn't:
An employee searched around for a few minutes before presenting a company memo which stated that Best Buy had, according to Namco-Bandai, 'oversold' its limited editions of the game, and the games publisher decided that they would ship zero limited editions to Best Buy stores as a result.
And it isn't just Best Buy. Online stores like Amazon and Newegg have been reporting that they are no longer selling the C.E.s anymore due to the fact that they don't have any copies of the C.E.s left. This isn't the retailers' fault. The publishers decided to promote the game by saying all pre-orders would be upgraded to the collector's edition. Turns out that was bull crap.

Basically, it looks like the publisher didn't supply the retailers with the promised "Collector's Editions," and now retailers and gamers are having to eat it.

If that's the case, then I apologize to Best Buy.

Dexter Season 7 in Jeopardy *UPDATE*

I know that the Sixth season of Dexter has just started but Michael C. Hall and Showtime are at a stalemate in contract negotiations reports Deadline.  Showtime is offering $20 million for 2 more seasons while Hall is countering with $24 million.  So with this, contract negotiations have broken down and Dexter's future has been put on hold.  We'll just have to wait and see if this is indeed the last season for America's Favorite Serial Killer.  I certainly hope that some sort of agreement can be reached.
Click HERE to read about season's 7 and 8 of Dexter!

The Simpsons in Danger of Being Canceled Once Again

Deadline is reporting that the voice cast and 20th Century FOX are having difficulties in coming up with a proper contract for the upcoming season.  The cast is willing to take a 30% pay cut (about $4 mill a season) if they can get a piece of the back end.  FOX countered with a 45% salary reduction.  The Simpsons have been a staple on FOX television for 23 seasons.  Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.  D'oh!

Disney Re-Releasing Old Favorites in 3D

With the success The Lion King 3D had in its 2 weeks of showing, Disney has decided to re-release 4 other favorites in 3D.  They are:

Dark Souls - I'm Raging So Much Right Now Because Best Buy Screwed Up

When you pre-odered the game at certain retailers, it was suppose to automatically upgrade to the collector's edition. Today I went to pick up my copy of Dark Souls Collector's Edition at Best Buy only to find out that Best Buy never received any copies of the Collector's Edition, just the standard editions! A lot of gamers, myself included, are incredibly mad right now. I canceled my pre-order and never bought the game. It turns out that the Best Buy I went to isn't the only one with this problem. Now I have to call Best Buy every 10 minutes asking them if they have received the Dark Soul's C.E. copies now. This is the first and last time I'll ever pre-order anything from Best Buy.

Beware the Batman!

World's Finest is reporting that Sam Register, executive vice president for creative affairs at Warner Bros. Animation, announced that the next animated series that will enter the DC Nation Block on Cartoon Network will be Beware the Batman. BtB will be a CGI animated show and will debut in Spring 2013.

Salivating Item of the Day

With Halloween right around the corner, I figure I would recommend something that fell into that category.  With that in mind, the first thing I came up with was Jeph Loeb's and Tim Sales' The Long Halloween.  TLH was an epic 13 issue mystery story that took place early in Batman's career.  He teamed up with Lt. Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent in trying to stop a serial killer who that strikes on holidays.  All of Batman's infamous rogue gallery members make an appearance in this story

Universal Soldier and The Adjustment Bureau are Being Developed for TV

Boogie Casting: Daredevil

With news of a reboot coming earlier this year (so the rights won't revert back to Marvel), I thought this would be a good time as any to come up with a cast for Marvel's Man Without Fear, Daredevil.  Who would play Matt Murdock/Daredevil?  How about Foggy Nelson or Karen Page?  Who can bring a menacing yet respectful presence to the role of Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin?  Let's have some fun and look at some possible characters could appear in Hell's Kitchen and who could play them.
