Thor 2 Narrows Search of Director and Screenwriter

ComicBookMovie (via The Hollywood Reporter) is reporting that Marvel has two perspective candidates for the directing chair left vacant by Patty Jenkins earlier this week.  Those names are Alan Taylor and Daniel Minahan who both have directed episodes of HBO's hit TV series Game of Thrones.  Furthermore, Marvel was also in the midst of looking for a writer when Jenkins left the project.  There is already a draft that was written by Don Payne and they were looking at Sheldon Turner (X-Men: First Class) on working on the script.  Now there is also a short list of possible candidates to work on the script.  They are John Collee (Happy Feet), Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan), and Roger Avery (Pulp Fiction).  Guess we'll be finding out soon enough who ends up directing Chris Hemsworth on his next go around as The Mighty Thor.

Watch Pulp Fiction in Chronological Order

We've all seen Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction.  We know that the movie jumps forward then backwards then right back to the middle.  So here is the movie edited in chronological order.  So if you have 2 1/2 hrs. to spare, sit down and enjoy a different perspective of Pulp Fiction

Movie Trailer: Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted

There's a third movie coming out?!

Movie Trailer: Battleship

Yup.  This is the movie trailer for Battleship based on the Hasbro board game.  I don't know... It has a very Transformers feel to it (I know.... Hasbro also produces Transformers toys).  This is directed by Peter Berg (The Rundown).  What say you?

Artist Gene Ha Follows Jim Lee on Justice League

The Source has revealed today that Multiple Eisner Award Winning artist Gene Ha will be penciling issues #7 & #8 of Justice League written by Geoff Johns.  The issues Ha will be illustrating are going to be the first issues that take place in current continuity and we get to see who is in the team now and what is different.  Jim Lee has been the artist for the previous issues that take place when the Justice League is first forming in the new DCnU.  Lee will be returning after Ha's two issues.

Here's more on what's in store for Ha's two issues:

JUSTICE LEAGUE #7 will also feature the first appearance of Shazam in DC COMICS-THE NEW 52. THE CURSE OF SHAZAM will unfold as a backup series in the LEAGUE monthly, written by New York Times bestselling author Geoff Johns and illustrated by acclaimed artist Gary Frank. The back up feature  will reveal an all-new origin for the character.

The main story of JUSTICE LEAGUE #7 serves as the prologue to “The Villain’s Journey,” a new, present day story arc which will pick up with the return of the regular series artist Jim Lee in issue #9.

You can see some of Gene Ha's Justice League drawings below.

New Movie Poster for The Amazing Spider-Man

Here is a pretty cool poster for next year's The Amazing Spider-Man courtesy of SuperHeroHype.  It comes with the tagline "The Untold Story."  Hopefully the Spidey movie reboot lives up to the first two Sam Raimi films.

The Dark Knight Rises: Operation Early Bird

What is Operation Early Bird?  If you click on the link it will take you a countdown that will be ending at 10am Pacific Standard Time.  Yesterday, two faux CIA bulletins were released that talked about a Dr. Leonid Pavel that kicked off The Dark Knight Rises viral marketing campaign.  You can follow the TDKR viral twitter at @thefirerises.  I guess we'll all have to wait and see what happens when the countdown reaches zero to see what happens.

The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman and is directed by Christopher Nolan.  It comes out in theaters and IMAX on July 20, 2012.  You can catch TDKR's prologue to whet your appetite on December 16th when it is released in front of the IMAX showings of Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol.  Remember that the prologue will only be shown at certain IMAX theaters.  To find out where you can watch the prologue, click HERE.

8bit Song of the Day: B-Sides #02

Here is Instant Karma by John Lennon who was assassinated 31 years ago today.  He would've been 71 years-old if it weren't for Mark David Chapman (what a dick move).

8bit Song of the Day: B-Sides #01

Here is L.A. Woman from The Doors 8bit-style to commemorate Jim Morrison's birthday.  He would've been 68 years-old today.

Don't put that scripted crap in Devil May Cry. Why would they add something as pointless as this when this should've been a cutscene.

The Dark Knight Rises' Viral Marketing Campaign Begins

The two pics above were released today to both Wired and Empire, respectively.  The CIA bulletin shows a "Dr. Leonid Pavel" who is played by actor Alon Abutbul.  The second image seems to be a CIA transcript of some sort.  Let the speculation begin on how this Dr. Abutol and the CIA involvement plays into The Dark Knight Rises.

Three Stooges Trailer

What Would Tyler Durden Do? posted this trailer and the title of the post reads "This Might be the Worst Movie Ever."  I think that's a bit harsh.  The original Three Stooges short films were straight loony and I should know.  I watched them religiously when I was a kid.  I mean for god sakes, the premise of one the original shows as I remember was about them running a restuarant in some Arab country and Larry trying to cook a dog or cat (it's a bit fuzzy now).

I mean how many times have trailers steered us wrong in showing us a movie's potential to be good or bad?  Expectations were high when I saw the Immortals trailer, and I had no hope when I viewed the first preview of the Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I was wrong both times.  I'm giving this a 50/50 chance of success.

12 Issue Marvel Crossover Avengers Vs. X-Men in 2012

Teaser image by Jim Cheung
So here's another Marvel crossover that is coming next April involving Marvel's top two teams: The Avengers and the X-Men.  A lot of big name writers and artists are going to be involved in this battle for the the returning Phoenix Force.  Here's Marvel's official press release, courtesy of SuperHeroHype:

Thor 2 In Need of a New Director

Director Patty Jenkins (Monster) has stepped down from the director's chair of Marvel Studios' Thor 2, reports Deadline. It was just this past October that Marvel Studios had announced that Jenkins would be following Kenneth Branagh's directing of Thor after Branagh decided not to return for the sequel.  The reason for the split between Jenkins and Marvel Studios is said to be "creative differences" but that doesn't mean that Marvel Studios won't be using her talents in another movie (most likely not a sequel).  Marvel Studios is moving quickly in trying to find a replacement director in order to meet the November 15, 2013  Thor sequel release date.

The Kenneth Branagh directed Thor made $448 million worldwide.

Nintendo Wants to Evolve the Zelda Series

Zelda Producer Eiji Aonuma says its time for Zelda to evolve into something bigger.
I started working on the series not at the beginning but part-way through its history. I think because of that, early on I was more looking objectively at the series and how we could change small, individual elements within it, rather than looking at how the series should evolve. As time has passed – particularly in the last few years – I’ve started to think a lot more about how I can take the series and really make it my own Zelda and evolve it further. As Mr. Miyamoto has allowed me to take the reins on the Zelda series, ultimately that’s what I need to do. Perhaps some people will think it’s a little bit late for me to start thinking about that, but as time goes by, that’s becoming more of a theme in how I’m approaching the series.
I can't wait to see what Nintendo has planned for the series. Personally I just want the series to be more difficult-- like Dark Souls difficult. I also want the next game to take place in a steam punk setting.

Paranoid Droid Review: Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

It hasn't even been a whole year since Marvel vs Capcom 3 came out when Capcom released the Ultimate version of the game. I enjoyed this update of the game a lot more than the original version. The major changes to the game, such as the new characters and rebalanced gameplay, are enough to make the Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 fresh and exciting to play.
