Salivating Item of the Day

We've all had those debates on which game is better.  How about the debate about which game you would rather play for the next 10 years?  Or which game has the best graphics?  Well, this game called The Metagame allows the players to debate and argue for their favorite game based on random questions the game comes with.  Metagame is very reminiscent of Apples to Apples but whereas Apples to Apples has a plethora of ideas and items one can argue for, Metagame focuses on just the gaming world.  You can click HERE to watch a video to get a better understanding on how the game is played and you can click HERE to watch a quick game being played.  Debating and arguing and lobbying for your favorites is always a blast.  Now it's a game.  It sure gets a lot funner when more people are involved and with a few drinks.  Unfortunately, as of this writing there aren't any available.  But you can check the OFFICIAL WEBSITE to see when more will become available.

Thanks to Logan Via for the heads up.  You can follow him on Twitter at @Raurik.

In the Blue corner, weighing in at 1:38, Quick Man!

In the Red corner, weighing in at 2:01, Gemini Man!

Remember that gamebreaking glitch that stops the game from progressing? Nintendo just released a patch for the game the fixes that glitch and it is available now for download. Click on the link to find out how. I didn't think it was actually possible to release a patch for a Wii game.

Hideo Kojima's Next Game Is "Open-Ended"

In an interview with CNN, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima said that his next game will be less cinematic and more "open" than his past games.
"The kind of game I'm making is some game that has a very wide entrance, a very open entrance," Kojima said through a translator in a phone interview with CNN last week. "Rather than making something very cinematic, [I plan to] make something very free."

8bitSpit Read of the Week

So I just got my hands on Grant Morrison's double issue ending to his Batman, Inc. storyline titled Batman, Incorporated: Leviathan Strikes! And Strikes! it does!  It is essentially the last two issues of Batman, Inc. because the whole new DCnU happened mid series.  But this is Grant Morrison's Batman.  There is no way DC would have left such a story be left undone.

The first part of the story features Stephanie Brown (formerly The Spoiler, formerly Robin, and-- before the DCnU-- Batgirl) infiltrating an all girl's academy for Batman in order to find a connection to who Leviathan is.  It's a fun read that has Stephanie Brown really shine which is complimented wholeheartedly by the fantastic art of frequent Morrison collaborator Cameron Stewart.

The second half of the story features the stellar artwork by Chris Burnham which sees Batman and the rest of the Bat-family stuck in a time warp in their quest to find out who Leviathan is.  Again, the story can feel a bit disjointed, but that is just the brilliance of Grant Morrison at work.  Ultimately, Batman and the rest of the Bat-family succeed and finally become aware who Leviathan is and their motives in trying to decimate the world and destroy Batman.

This ends up setting up Morrison's last Batman story that has been six years in the making.  in 2012, we will see Batman and the rest of Batman, Inc. go head on against Leviathan in Batman: Leviathan.  I cannot wait to read how Morrison plans to end is stellar run in the world of Batman.

8bit Song of the Day Mega Man Special #2

Alright! Time for round two of the #8BitSongOfTheDay Mega Man throwdown! Geez, what would an acronym for that look like? 8BSotDMMTD? And now here comes a new challenger! Round 1 was practically over as soon as it began with the victory going to Snake Man! So far both teams still seem in high spirits as the Score sits at 0 - 1 in Mega Man 3's favor. Now, let's begin!

Round 2! Hajime!

In the Blue corner, weighing in at 1:48, the Mad Gear! Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you, Metal Man!

In the Red corner, weighing in at 2:08, the shadow that stalks the night. No, not Batman, Shadow Man!

Will Metal Man be able to take a point home for his team? or will Shadow Man sneak away with the victory? Only you can make it happen!

A SHAMELESS Christmas Carol

And beer beer beer beer beer beer....  Ahh... Music to my ears!

If you haven't watched Showtime's Shameless, you are really missing out!  The second season starts in January.

Devil May Cry HD Collection

Great for people who haven't played these games yet. Devil May Cry 1 and 3... and that... one thing in the middle... will be coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 in a single package on April 3rd 2012 in Europe and North America. I just hope it isn't a lazy port like Resident Evil 4 HD and RE: Code Veronica X HD. All Capcom ever did is just port it to the PS3 and 360 without actually upgrading the graphics in any way. Plus RE4 HD had framerate drops and terrible audio. The original Gamecube version never had any of those problems.

8bit Song of the Day Mega Man Special #1

Today's #8BitSongOfTheDay begins a ten day countdown to the new year. And what better way to celebrate the new year than with one of the biggest ongoing debates in 8Bit history. Who's soundtrack is better, Mega Man 2 or Mega Man 3? One shall stand, and one shall fall!

Round 1! Hajime!

In the Blue corner, weighing in at 1:44, Bubble Man!

In the Red corner, weighing in at 1:30, Snake Man!

Both of these contenders are aiming to take the match for their respective games, but it's up to you to decide! Just tweet your vote to me, @Raurik, and I'll tally up the votes. The winning game receives the prestige of knowing that they were the better game while the loser will receive a lifetime supply of envy.

Movie Trailer: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

And here's the poster:

Ever Wonder What a David Fincher Directed Spider-Man Movie Would Have Been Like?

David Fincher, who directed Fight Club and the soon to be releasing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, spoke with io9 about what he had in mind for a Spider-Man movie before it went to Sam Raimi:

My impression what Spider-Man could be is very different from what Sam [Raimi] did or what Sam wanted to do. I think the reason he directed that movie was because he wanted to do the Marvel comic superhero. I was never interested in the genesis story. I couldn't get past a guy getting bit by a red and blue spider. It was just a problem… It was not something that I felt I could do straight-faced. I wanted to start with Gwen Stacy and the Green Goblin, and I wanted to kill Gwen Stacy.

The title sequence of the movie that I was going to do was going to be a ten minute — basically a music video, an opera, which was going to be the one shot that took you through the entire Peter Parker [backstory]. Bit by a radio active spider, the death of Uncle Ben, the loss of Mary Jane, and [then the movie] was going to begin with Peter meeting Gwen Stacy. It was a very different thing, it wasn't the teenager story. It was much more of the guy who's settled into being a freak.
Watching a 10-minute music video that glosses over a lot of the important aspects of what makes Peter Parker the man just shows that Fincher doesn't understand Spider-Man.  I for one am glad that Sam Raimi went on to direct Spider-Man.

Chris Nolan to Tweak Bane's Voice- But Don't Expect a Big Change

I watched The Dark Knight Rises prologue.  And like many others, I also had a bit of difficulty in understanding what Bane was saying.  I was able to catch a few words here and there.  Apparently it hasn't gone unnoticed by the WB brass.  They don't want their potential billion dollar sequel to have any issues that would prevent TDKR from reaching their monetary goal.  However, Nolan who has made WB plenty of money with movies like The Dark Knight and Inception says "he plans to alter the sound slightly, not to rework it completely."  Hey, I'm fine with the sound of Bane's voice, but slightly tweaking it a bit to make it more understandable is good.  As long as he doesn't change it completely (which I highly doubt Nolan would ever do).

8bit Song of the Day #08

Since it is probably beginning to become obvious, #8BitSongOfTheDay, for the video game soundtracks, is dedicated to all the hidden gems of our childhood. Back then games didn't have deep online multiplayer modes, 150+ hour campaigns, or sometimes the ability to save. Mega Man was simply a little guy who could jump and shoot, but he had one beast soundtrack. With the advent of BGMs, gone were the days of a constant beep with each new pac pellet, gamers wanted atmosphere. Gamers had the Power, they could see reviews on all of the latest games so they could tell when your box art was bluffing. Enter, one of the greatest games of the Super Nintendo that no one has ever heard of: U.N. Squadron.

Now, to begin with let's just crank this bad boy up.

Awesome intro? Check! Mode 7 graphics used in intro to look fancy? Check! Beast music? Double check!

Do yourself a favor, if you don't have the game, buy it. If you can't buy it, then keep watching. If you already own it, then go play it because this game went practically unnoticed. I was fortunate that my dad has always been into planes and happened to pick this gem out of a bargain bin and have him to thank for the fact that I still own a copy. Of course, he also threw away the box to Contra III so I guess we all have our off days, but it is not time to speak of that-- yet. First, U.N. Squadron.

What isn't there to say about this game? It has amazing controls, tons of unlockable planes with tons of customizable weapons, huge bosses, great level design and an admirable level of attention to the pacing. Many shoot em' ups like to throw as much at you as possible and the best example of how much of a mess this can make is any game made by Cave. However, that is not to say that U.N. Squadron won't challenge you. This game is so hard it'll have you wishing you could pop quarters just to continue after the second level, but you won't stop, the music won't let you go. Only one other man that I know of goes out of his way to show just how amazing this game was as much as I do and that's Screw Attack's Stuttering Craig.

Evidence here:

Each #8BitSongOfTheDay game comes with high recommendations, but today's #8BitSongOfTheDay is dedicated to U.N. Squadron's entire soundtrack because if flows together to create such an amazing experience that I might just have to go play it right now.

What's Inside Chuck's P.A.N.T.S.?

If you saw last Friday's episode of Chuck titled Chuck vs. the Curse, you know that Chuck had asked Morgan for his P.A.N.T.S.  We never got a chance to see what was inside Chuck's P.A.N.T.S., but now NBC has revealed what's inside of them.  Click HERE to find out.  Oh, and get your mind outta the gutter. P.A.N.T.S. stands for Personal Artifacts Never To Share.

DmC: Devil may Cry "Secrets" Gameplay Trailer

I don't like how the game is being presented. So far it's been grappling hook, followed by button mashing, then rinse and repeat. The combat is slow enough as it is, taking time out to drag an enemy to you is just flow breaking. Plus there's no danger. The grappling hook has a ridiculous reach so there's hardly a chance of getting hit and the enemies are slow as hell to boot. Looks like the enemies not only stall for a long time as they're about to hit you, but time also slows down as the attack is incoming? Or was that activated by the evade? Either way it's killing any sense of danger. All these enemies take too long to kill and they don't even give you any challenge. I really hope that's not how it is in the final game. It's the challenge that makes the Devil May Cry games so appealing to me and I don't see any of that in here. The only thing I like about this game so far is the art direction and the level designs.

We get a look at a bunch of new worlds such as the Three Musketeers, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, Pinocchio, and they even show a very short clip of a certain film that came out late last year. Here's a hint: it took place within an arcade game. The characters from Square Enix's The World Ends With You will make a special guest appearance in the game.

Wii U Will Be At Consumer Electronics Show 2012

Nintendo is bringing the Wii U to CES and I'll be getting more hands-on with the tablet-console hybrid to build on my impressions from E3 2011. Nintendo has historically skipped over CES, but it's great to hear the company will have a presence there in 2012.

Hopefully they'll show some actual ingame footage rather than a couple of tech demos.

Boogie Movie Review: Mission Impossible- Ghost Protocol

Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol
Directed by: Brad Bird
Release date: December 16, 2011
Starring:  Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg
Studio:  Paramount Pictures

From IMDB: The IMF is shut down when it's implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, causing Ethan Hunt and his new team to go rogue to clear their organization's name.

I'll admit it.  I went to see Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol just to watch The Dark Knight Rises' Prologue.  So I stayed to watch M:I-GP and I am glad that I did!  Ghost Protocol is a fantastic, action-packed  movie that could not have worked out with anyone but Tom Cruise.  I will say this: Tom Cruise is back.

This is by far my favorite entry from the Mission: Impossible movie series.  I found the other movies kinda boring-- something that I would have on in the background while I cleaned, read comic books, or while working on 8bitSpit stuff!  This one, on the other hand, I enjoyed from beginning to middle to end.  It had enough action, suspense and comedy to keep me from dozing off or looking at my watch to see how much time had elapsed.

8bit Song of the Day #07

Where can I begin with today's #8BitSongOfTheDay? He's one of the youngest, most talented chiptune artists on the scene right now as well as being one of the most popular. Yes, I'm talking about Jake "Virt" Kaufman! Virt is one of the chiptune gods. His music has appeared in a number of games, as well as recently participating in the indie music bundle. He's worked on the new Shantae, Mighty Milky Way, and the new 2D Bloodrayne's soundtracks. There is no stopping this man. Virt is so 8bit I'd swear that his cellphone has 88 keys and his neckties can only come in 55 colors with only twelve of those colors being able to appear simultaneously at any given time. That's how 8bit he is.  But if all of this is still not enough to convince you of this man's worth, then just listen to this:

And while you're at it check him out at his website, http://www.biglionmusic.com/, or his Bandcamp at http://virt.bandcamp.com/.  Also, for those of you on the east coast, Virt WILL be at Magfest this year!

Want to Know What Bane Had to Say in the Prologue? *SPOILERS*

SPOILERS!!!
WWTD has obtained the the scripts for The Dark Knight Rises prologue and you can look at them and find out what Bane had to say by clicking HERE.  Again, if you haven't seen the prologue, I would just wait for the movie to come out because what is on paper doesn't do what was shown on screen justice.  If you have seen the prologue and are curious, then go and check it out.

You can read my spoiler-free review of The Dark Knight Rises Prologue HERE.

Boogie Review: The Dark Knight Rises Prologue

If The Dark Knight Rises prologue is suppose to tease and tantalize and whet our appetite, it most certainly did!  What the bank heist prologue did to The Joker and show you his chaotic brilliance, this "airplane" prologue showed that Bane is a physical and brute force as well as a master strategist that will most certainly be giving Batman his ultimate challenge.

Christain Bale Vs. Chinese Authorites- Who You Got?!

I think if Christian Bale would have been in full Batman regalia, he definitely would have gotten a different reception. Or he should have had a "Terminator: Salvation" meltdown and just trash talk them to death until he got what he wanted.

8bit Song of the Day #06

Today's #8BitSongOfTheDay is all about two consonants that should have never been placed beside one another. Yes, it is time for The Ys series. Today's pick comes from Ys III, and it is the theme from the Edlam Mountains. Choosing just one song from this game was pretty hard because I have yet to do an RPG so I felt I owed it to the venerable genre that made Nobuo Uematsu a job so that he could go on to inspire others to make amazing music for video games. However, to give it away to a Final Fantasy game would be too easy, I wanted to find something a little less known. Ys was one of my favorite games as a little kid and even though I was never able to beat it, the music was what kept me trying anyways. By today's standards, Ys III is impossible. This game required so much grinding, and if you died, time to load. So much progress could be lost and over-leveling was not a guarantee for success. I remember one time I tried using a Game Genie and made Adol, the main character, invincible. I was playing for quite some time until I came to a dragon. The dragon was the level's boss.
