Rumor: Microsoft is Thinking of Phasing Out Their Microsoft Points System

Thank the lord Bill Gates, I mean Jebus Christ (Yes I said "Jebus"on purpose) for this change.  It's been a long time since I've been on my Xbox (circa Halo 3 release), but when I was actively spending those weird points, I always felt a bit ripped off on what I was purchasing.  I usually ended with some odd denomination of points that I couldn't possibly purchase anything with that amount.  I mean WTF is a point anyways and how did that translate into real American hard cold cash?  This was all some type of way for Microsoft to pocket your odd leftover pennies.  Heck, a penny is still money, right?   Now imagine the millions of subscribers to Xbox Live that get jacked for there unused pennies?  On the PSN $10.00 is ten bucks, no if's, ands or buts.

Ok, ok I got it out... Lets just hope it's sooner rather than later, Halo 4 is coming and I want to be there when it does.

More Star Wars: The Clone Wars Videos

--Via IGN

I have been largely ignoring this cartoon series.  Not because it's not awesome, but because I feel the series is too deep into the storyline that I would be lost.  Well after seeing this trailer I won't be using this excuse any longer.  I'm going to try to catch up as best iI can through Netflix and dvds.

Gametrailers Retrospective Channel is Awesome

Have you ever wondered why Link was never the same long eared, sword wielding, boomerang slinging elf in every game?  How about how Samus Aran got be a great bounty hunter?  Or how Halo is not just a first person PHENOMENA, but it has a decent story behind it?  All these questions and more are revealed through narrative videos by the knowledgeable team at Gametrailers' Retrospective Channel.

I recommend watching  the Castlevania series, Metal Gear, and of course the Legend of Zelda, retrospectively.  I've been surfing the web for quite a few years now and I've found some good content here and there, but this find has to be one of the greatest bits of nerd-tastic content out on the internet.  Thank you Gametrailers!

I check back every so often to see if new games stories are added.  I'm guessing it's not so easy to put together so much information on one subject in two or three weeks time.

Its way too early to tell if the physics in this game has improved over the last one. Let's wait and see if Sega decide's to release uncut gameplay footage. The graphics does look so much better than the cheap plastic look in Episode 1.

Borderlands 2 Launch Date Trailer

Is it just me or is there a huge increase of dubstep being used in game trailers these days? I've only played a little bit of the first one some time ago and I really liked it a lot. I'd love to play this one as well.

Movie Trailer: Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope Official Trailer

Having been to comic con, I am really hoping this movie portrays the experience well. When I talk to people about comic con that have never been there, their first reaction is to make fun of geek culture. I guess people think all that happens there is ugly, out of shape, pimply dudes just getting together and playing Star Trek. While there may be a bit of that going on, it's more than that. A lot more. It's tough to put it in words why it's so special, but maybe this documentary can do that. I hope.

Fan-Made Mega Man Game Trailer!

I might have to get a PC for this game. I am as a big of fan of the old school 8bit Mega Man games, and this fan made game (still in production) is looking ridiculously legit!

Here is the info from Mega PhilX's  youtube page:

MegaMan Unlimited is a PC game developed by MegaMan fans. It has been in development for a few years now. We do this in our free time so I can't provide a precise release date yet. It's going to be free.

At the moment of the release of this trailer, the game has all 9 Robot Masters functional.
8 Robot Master stages out of the 9 are designed and the 9th "secret" one is still in the enemy tweaking/placement phase. (Almost done)
All enemies (except one) are functional.
Music has been redone for JetMan, TrinitroMan, NailMan and the Title Screen. We still have a few songs to re-do. Among them, one of the Wily Stage songs and a couple of other improvements are needed here and there.
Wily stages have most of their enemies placed but still require tweaks because:
- We still need to implement the special weapons system and Rush.
- Wily Bosses are still not implemented.
We also have to implement the menus, cutscenes and save/load feature.
The game still has many bugs we need to fix too.
But we've come a long way since the start of the project. I can't thank all of those who helped me enough.

Here's hoping this game comes out as good as it's looking. Awesome job on the trailer.

New MiB3 One Sheet

Here's a look at the Men in Black 3 one sheet.

In Men in Black 3, Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back... in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K's life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him -- secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.

Cue up the Back to the Future theme song.

Young Justice: Legacy Video Game Announced

Warner Bros. Interactive just announced Young Justice: Legacy video game based on the animated series on Cartoon Network with Little Orbit as the developer.

New episodes of the Warner Bros. Animation series Young Justice will air beginning Saturday, March 3, at 10:30 a.m. ET/PT on Cartoon Network as part of DC Nation, the network's brand-new one-hour block of exclusive kids' television programming and shorts based on DC Comics characters. In Young Justice, teenage heroes Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis are tasked by the Justice League to act as their covert operations team. Armed with superior skills, weaponry and powers, the team must do battle against a wide array of villains from the DC Universe while trying to prove to themselves, and to their superhero mentors, that they too have what it takes to be a hero. Their journey is further complicated when they face the many unpredictable obstacles that arise in their path from inexperience and youth.

In Young Justice: Legacy fans can look forward to an original storyline set in between Seasons 1 and 2 of the television series, written in collaboration with show writers Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti. The game is packed with fan favorite playable characters, cameo appearances by popular Justice League heroes and villains, and includes online multiplayer as well as local multiplayer modes.

"The TV series is a fantastic combination of compelling writing, witty humor, iconic art, and exciting action sequences. The creators have done an amazing job blending over 180 DC Comics characters into their show filtered through a new, youthful perspective," said Matt Scott, CEO of Little Orbit. "The new video game contains a slew of cool features and a large playable cast of familiar heroes, but our core mission is to create a unique experience that fits seamlessly into the world of the show and offers a new way to interact with these popular DC Comics characters."

Tribes: Ascend Beta Review

154 kilometers an hour. I flew into the enemy base by ramping off the side of a mountain and grabbed their flag at 154 kilometers an hour. I was gone before they even knew what hit 'em. It was different, it was exhilarating, it was awesome.

Tribes: Ascend is a remake of the classic Tribes games reworked and marketed for the TF2 generation. Hi-Rez studios is manning the helm on the project, a smaller company previously known for the MMO Global Agenda. Hi-Rez has taken the core gameplay from the previous Tribes games and supercharged it, particularly the skiing mechanic. The result is easily the greatest feeling of speed I have ever seen in a video game. Skiing in T:A is simple and addictive, press the spacebar to enter a low friction state and glide down hills, and press the right mouse button for a jetpack to maintain speed while going up hills. Often I would forgo the whole "kill-people-to-score-points" thing and ski around the huge maps.

Weekly Sunday Ad is a great site for video game deals and that goes for all gaming platforms.  CheapyD and his the crew of CAG do their best to find us deals from most of the well known video game vendors, including ones that are not so well known or popular.  I've been visiting this site now for about 9-10 years, going back to the EB Games (before the Gamestop merger) days when deals were so abundant.

They put out a weekly Sunday Ad compilation of what major outlets are advertising in their video game departments like Target, Walmart, Toys R Us, etc...

So please give this site a look-sy, and join their community as well, most folks in there also post up their own local deals up as well.

Movie Trailer: WONDER WOMEN! The Untold Story of American SuperHeroines

 -- AICN

WONDER WOMEN! THE UNTOLD STORY OF AMERICAN SUPERHEROINES traces the fascinating evolution and legacy of Wonder Woman. From the birth of the comic book superheroine in the 1940s to the blockbusters of today, WONDER WOMEN! looks at how popular representations of powerful women often reflect society's anxieties about women's liberation. WONDER WOMEN! goes behind the scenes with Lynda Carter, Lindsay Wagner, comic writers and artists, and real life superheroines such as Gloria Steinem, Shelby Knox and others who offer an enlightening and entertaining counterpoint to the male dominated superhero genre.

Boogie's Retro Movie Trailer: The Goonies

Before I was Boogie Knight, I was a wee young Boogie Squire and I remember watching The Goonies and wanting to go out on an adventure seeking for lost treasure.  I was a fan of the Indiana Jones movies but this was the first time I had seen kids on such a crazy adventure where they were dodging bullets, solving puzzles and evading death-defying traps.  Who didn't want to be part of The Goonies, along side Chuck, Data, or Mouth?  I know I tried to make (and unsuccessfully, I might add) my own contraptions just like the kind that Data had or, yes, I'll admit it, did the Truffle Shuffle (and I know you did too!).  The Goonies will always be a classic.  I think I'll go watch it right now.

Video Game Trailer: Mass Effect 3: Take Earth Back

Simpsons 500th Episode Airs Tonight

Aye Carramba 500 episodes!!!!  My first Simpsons experience was on the Tracy Ullman Show(1987), but those were weird cartoon story lines even for those days.  But once they got their own show (1989), I would rush my parents to hurry home after our weekly Sunday dinner, because even missing the iconic Simpsons' intro song was such a bummer.

89.3 KPCC interviewed Michael Price the co-executive producer of "The Simpsons" and writer of this Sunday's episode "At Long Last, Leave."  Listen to the interview here.

8Bit Song of the Day #15

Welcome back to #8BitSongOfTheDay. This past week has been a long one, but that won't stop me from giving you guys the best video game music that nobody ever gives enough notice to. Recently we've been talking a lot about artists in the indie video game music scene. We even had a pretty awesome interview with one of the best. So I thought I would steer things back into the actual video games for a little while.

Not much can be said about today's choice but "OMG I love that song!" Final Fantasy VI had some of the most memorable music in any role playing game to date. Forget your Chrono Trigger or your Final Fantasy VII. This game did it all first (except for time travel) and did it in a way that won't let you look at other RPGs the same ever again. But, to be frank, I think I've already said as much as I can say about Final Fantasy VI. It is the game that everybody talks about but you don't understand why until you finally try it. So go pick up a copy. It is available for GBA, PSP, PSX, SNES, and there are even rumors that it might be coming to 3DS.

Now I know what you're thinking, why pick something that has been shown time and again on the top of countless lists about RPG songs? Well, does something sound a little different, a little more high definition? Truth be told, this isn't the version of the song that I remember from any of the countless re-releases of this game. Fortunately there is a very simple answer for this. It isn't from Square-Enix at all. This beautiful rendition was performed for your auditory pleasure by one Final FanTim using high quality samples for all of the various instruments in the piece. Tim is a bit of an angel as he not only poured countless hours into remastering some of the work from Final Fantasy VI, but he released his work for free. Unfortunately, he used public hosting websites such as MegaUpload and all of the download links have since expired. But you can still get your hands on a copy thanks to another user on the same forum that the works were originally posted on. He has organized the downloads into one neat album on MediaFire for your benefit.

Here is the original post.
Here is the link to the download page.

Still not convinced you should check out Final FanTim's remastered works? Then maybe you would be interested in knowing that he also remastered the entire soundtrack for another Final Fantasy game. Yes, every single song from the game. It hurts my brain to think about how much time that must have taken him.
